What is included in the price?
You are paying for the coaching and guiding only.
What extras will I have to pay for?
Transport to and from the venue.
Hire of any kit that you require.
£40 per boat per day.
£15 for paddle, cagoule, buoyancy aid, helmet and spraydeck per day.
Any certification fees payable to the British Canoeing Awars.
Any food and drinks.
How do I book my place?
Contact us by phone or email. Once we confirm the course with you, you can go ahead and pay by bank transfer.
What should I bring with me?
This depends very much on the local weather at the time, the sea temperature, and how likely you are to enter the water (rolling and rescues are a compulsory part of the BCU 3 star training and assessment). If you’re not sure on what layers and equipment you may need, give us a call.
For the Introduction courses bring with you:
- Sun hat, sun glasses, high factor SPF sunscreen, lip balm, water or other fluids.
- Base layers/rash vest.
- A cagoule.
- Beach shorts, neoprene shorts, or wetsuit if it’s a cold day.
- Buoyancy Aid.
- Spraydeck.
- Footwear that will withstand the sand and saltwater.
- Paddles.
- A towel and a change of clothing.
- Food and drink.
For the trips, navigation course and British Canoeing Awards training and assessment courses:
- A helmet but also a sun hat, sun glasses, high factor SPF sunscreen, lip balm, water or other fluids.
- Base layers.
- Drysuit, wetsuit or dry cagoule/dry trouser combo.
- Good quality footwear that can withstand the sand and saltwater.
- Buoyancy Aid.
- Deck.
- Towline
- Compass
- Flask of hot drink.
- A headtorch.
- 2 glowsticks.
- Drybags with spare clothing.
- First aid Kit.
First Aid Courses
Can we hold the course at our clubhouse?
Yes. If the driving time from Hitchin to your clubhouse is less than 2 hours there will not be an additional charge. Get in touch if you’re not sure.
Is there a discount for a block booking?
Yes. If you want an exclusive booking for your club or group of friends,
£360 for a one-day course.
£660 for a two-day course.
Are other dates available throughout the year?
Yes. Get in touch to discuss possible dates.
What is included in the price?
- You are paying for the cost of the course and tuition.
- Paper, pens and summary notes are provided.
- British Canoeing Lifeguards certification fees.

What’s NOT included in the price?
- The hire charge for the venue.
What should I bring?
- Wear clothing suitable for doing exercises on the ground, possibly when it’s cold.
- Your own refreshments.
- Bring your own First Aid Kit.
- Bring your Buoyancy Aid.
